John Richard
Mason was born in Tatern, England, on Sept. 20, 1866, and passed away at his
home near Glen Haven on Aopril 23, 1941, at the age of 74 years.
He was the
second son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Mason and come to this country
with his parents at the age of one year.
On Jan. 20,
1897, he was married at Lancaster to Emma Brookens. They moved to Goodell,
Hancock County, IA, where they engaged in farming for six years. At this
time they moved back to WI and purchased the farm on which he passed the
remainder of his life.
His death was
caused by heart trouble, from which he had suffered most of the winter.
Besides his widow, he leaves the following relatives: two brothers, Walt of
Goodell IA; and Lester of Bloomington; four sisters, Mrs. Nettie Cunningham
of Goodell, IA; and Mrs. Elizabeth Thornton, Mrs. Anna Krantz and Mrs. Sarah
Kipper all of Bloomington; four children, Marguerite (Mrs Lester Garthwaite)
of Lancaster: Sylvia (Mrs. Leonard Gabel), Melvin, and John Jr. all of Glen
Haven; also by a previous marriage, a daughter Lida (Mrs. Fred Reuter) of
Goodell, IA. He leaves twelve grandchildren, all of whom were very fond of
their grandfather.
He was preceded
in death by his parents and three brothers: Frank, Arthur, and Fred.
Funeral
Services were held at the Methodist church in Bloomington on Saturday, April
26, at two p.m., conducted by Rev. Peter Holmes. Burial was in Blakes
Prarie Cemetery.
