"Obituary of John Myers"
John Myers was born January 18th, 1830, at Cornwell, Canada, and died February 8th, 1909, at his home near Beetown. (Cornwell is in the province of Ontario, Stormont, on the St. Lawrence.)
He came to WI with his parents when quite young, and was united in marriage to Mary Jane Immel October 30th, 1866. Together they settled on a farm near bee, where they lived happily together until December 19th, 1895, when his companion, who stood by him through the trials of this life, was called to a home of rest.
Since that time, he has lived at his daughter Ella's home, where he was given the best of care during his many hours of suffering, which he bore with the greatest of patience.
Being a man whose experience along so many lines was unusually brought, and having his right mind up to the moment of his death, he enjoyed a social call from everyone he met. He took his usual place at the breakfast table only an hour before his death, which was instantaneous.
Father Myers was a lover of children and so often said his happiest hours were when he had the privilege of enjoying the presence of the members of his family, who were so dear to him.
He and his wife united with the Methodist church many years before her death. Both lived in the fear of God until death severed them from this life. To them were born five children William, Philip, Bertha, Ella, and Etta. Philip preceded his father to the great beyond by eight years. The remaining four children, one brother, three sisters, and a host of friends are left to mourn the loss of a good man.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. William Jackson of Sioux Falls, SD on Thursday, February 11th, at the Dodge M.E. church.
Phone conversation with gr. grandson, Harry Cooper 9-25-94. Harry said John had quite a bit of Indian blood, his sons looked much like Indians.
