Pennsylvania. He was second of eight children. They were William, John,
Henry, JOSEPH, ISAAC, REUBEN, SARAH and Nancy/ANN.

--------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------
1775: John Hague's birth. THIS JOHN HAGUE born about 1775 is the one
whose GRAVE STONE WAS LYING FLAT ON THE GROUND completely covered
with three inches of dirt. The Hague Graveyard is located in
Kennonsburg, OH, about 400 yards east of the house, up on the hill of
Section 12. It's almost impossible to find without a guide, as the
underbrush is very dense. Carol Minson photographed his gravestone
June 1988. The stone read, "In memory of John Hague who departed this
life January the 11, 1841, in the 66th year of his age." (That area is now
Wayne Twp., Noble Co., Ohio. I have a story about that graveyard entitled:
"The Best Genealogy Find Ever.")
1775: JOHN HAGUE came from Chester Co. PA. (He may well have done
so. But, what is the source????)
1775: JOHN HAGUE was born in Pennsylvania. His parents were
JOHN & SARAH HAGUE. John's father (b abt 1750) died in 1802.
There is confusion in different family histories about SARAH'S maiden
name. Some say "COLLINS." Some say" MENDENHALL."
JOHN (b 1775), was second of eight children. Their names were:
WILLIAM,
JOHN,
HENRY,
JOSEPH,
ISAAC,
REUBEN,
SARAH, and
NANCY ANN. Source: Fayette Co. PA, Orphans Ct. Vol 2, p 304, Jan,

1790 Aug 2, CENSUS of Menallen, Fayette, PA . p 108:
HAGE, JOHN l M l6 & up (This is John b abt 1750)
6 M under l6 (WILLIAM, JOHN, HENRY, JOSEPH, ISAAC, REUBEN)
2 F (SARAH, wife of John and a dau, SARAH).
The Fayette Co. PA Orphans Ct. Docket 2. p 196, Oct 1825, gives a
listing of the eight children of JOHN HAGUE (1750-1802) in the same
order as above, and names his widow, SARAH! So we know JOHN HAGUE
b abt 1775 was the son of JOHN and SARAH HAGUE. But which SARAH?
What was her maiden name?
The proof of the maiden name of SARAH (who md John Hague b 1750) might be
found in the following: SARAH names her sister "ANN HARVEY" in her
(SARAH'S) will registered 27 Apr 1832, and probated 7 May 1832.

No WILLIAM HAGUE in the Chester Co. l800 Census Index.
(Does anybody have anymore information about this William?)
1800 Apparently JOHN HAIG (1775) md before 1800 census. He appears to be in
1800 census (above) and in
1801 his son REUBEN HAGUE was born (according to 1810-1870 census).
1802 before Sep--John's father died in Fayette Co, PA- probably Menallen Twp..
1802 Sept: Guardian Appointment, Fayette Co, PA: "JOSEPH Hague,
ISAAC Hague and REUBEN Hague, minor sons of JOHN HAGUE (b 1750) late
of Menallen Twp, deceased, being severally above the age of 14 yrs, come
into court and choose John Townsend of Menallen Twp to be guardian. .
.during their minority. The court appoints John Work of German Twp to
be guardian over. . .SARAH Hague and ANN Hague, minor children of John
Hague late of Menallen. . . until they severally arrive at the age of 14
yrs." ("Severally above age 14" would mean those 3 "minor sons" of John
Hague(1750) were ages 15-20. This indicates that Joseph, Isaac,
and Reuben were born 1782-1787. We know Isaac was born 1784.
1804 March PROBATE: Guardian choice: Docket 1, p 49: "Sarah Hague,
minor dau of John-(1750)- Hague late of Menallen Twp. deceased, being above the
age of 14 years, comes into court and chooses Thomas Lewis to be

1816 Son ISAAC born, prob Wayne Twp., Guernsey Co., OH
1820: JOHN HAGUE(1776) first appears in tax records as owning S.12
N.W. R.8, T.8,, Guernsey Co. OH. JOHN HAGUE is not listed in the 1818
or 1819 tax records. As I understand it, early tax laws in Ohio allowed
people to live on their land for five years before having to pay taxes. So
perhaps he was living on this land in 1815.

1824, Sep 13, son URIAH HAGUE born Wayne Twp., Guernsey Co. OH
1825: I didn't find JOHN(1775) in Guernsey Co. OH, tax records again
until 1825: "159 acres, value $289."
HERE'S Part of THE PROOF OF JOHN b 1776, being s/o John Hague b 1750:

(comment: this "Nancy"appears to be the same as "Ann" Hague in previous
Orphans Court and Guardians Court.)
1826: JOHN HAGUE is listed in Guernsey Co. OH personal property taxes
as having 2 horses & 2 cows. His eldest son, REUBEN also appears here
for the first time. I did not see either Hague on land taxes.

1828, 1829, 1830, 1831, 1832 JOHN HAGUE is in Guernsey Co. OH. tax

1829: Death of son, Isaac:
Sarah was the wife of John and the mother of Isaac as shown on the
gravestone of Isaac. We do not yet know if she was the mother of all
John's children.
There is an 1829 gravestone for son, ISAAC, (b 1816) in that HAGUE
GRAVEYARD. It reads:
In Memory of
Isaac Hague
Son of John and
Sarah Hague
Who died Jan
the 30 1829 in
the 13th year of
his age.
Comment: There were 15 stones in that graveyard. (Carol Minson made
field notes which she is willing to share--however now they are
confusing, even to her.)

1840, Dec 1: A Guernsey County Court Record states that "JOHN HAGUE
deceased Dec l, l840."
1840 Dec 24: Special Session Court, Guernsey Co. OH, held for Estate of
JOHN (b1775)HAGUE. JOHN(b1804) and JOSEPH(1806)HAGUE to be
administrators. (This is ample proof that John-b1776- died Dec 1,
1840. His gravestone was probably erected later and thus had an
erroneous death date.)
(Perhaps the reasons REUBEN(1801), the eldest was not administrator:
l.- He lived 50 miles to the south. 2.- They had lost FIVE of their previous 7 babies!
3.- His wife now must have had her hands full with their 8th and 9th babies- 9 mo old TWINS!
184l July 29... JOHN (b1804) HAGUE, "filed petition in Court of Common
Pleas, Guernsey Co., against (siblings)
REUBEN HAGUE, (40, b 1801)
JOSEPH HAGUE, (35, b 1806)
JANE HAGUE, (32, b abt 1809)
AMOS HAGUE, (29, b abt 1812)
URIAH HAGUE, (16, b 1824)
demanding partition of land, to wit: NW 1/4 of Sl2, T.8 R.8, 159 acres
(now) situate in Seneca Twp., Guernsey Co." "LEFT NO WIDOW. Left 6
children heirs at law, all of full age except URIAH."
(No mother mentioned. Must be deceased.)
The above document helped prove the relationship of
REUBEN(1801)HAGUE to his father JOHN(1775)HAGUE.
(For further info see notes on John Hague b abt 1804.)
1845 REUBEN'S younger brother JOSEPH (1806) bought out the home
property from the other five siblings. JOSEPH and his wife and children
lived on S.12, T.8, R.8, the rest of his life.
(For further info see notes on Joseph Hague b 1806.)
1775-1840 was the lifespan of JOHN HAGUE who moved to Guernsey Co.
OH about 1812. He is the HAGUE who first settled that piece of land,
much of which is now buried under the peaceful waters of man-made
Seneca Lake. He is the JOHN HAGUE who is buried up on hill 400 yards
east of (his?) house 1 mile east of Kennonsburg, OH.

1. Do we assume that John #108, b abt1750, died by 1802 or is there
enough proof?
___________________
2. QUESTION: When JOHN (3) took out the land patent in 1805, did he
have to make land improvements in a specified time such as the
homestead act required?
.____________________
3. Comment: Seven HAGUE families live in six Pa. counties in the l790
census.
There are l5 HAGUE families living in five Pa. counties in the l8l0
census.
It doesn't appear correct that there would be only five HAGUE families
in two Pa. counties in the l800. But that is all that I found. Recheck
that l800 census index.

ARE THERE MENDENHALLS CLOSE BY?

5. Comment: JOHN(b 1775) moved to Guernsey Co., Ohio about l8l2. He is
the HAGUE who first settled that piece of land, much of which is now
buried under the peaceful waters of Seneca Lake. He is the JOHN HAGUE
who is buried up on the hill l mile East of Kennonsburg, Ohio.
If JOHN (3) did indeed come from Chester Co, Pa., it seems likely that
WILLIAM HAGUE in the l790 in Oxford Twp. Chester Co. is an uncle or a
brother. JOHN HAGUE born about 1750, and JOHN HAGUE born 1775, both
have older brothers who are named WILLIAM.
(**This needs summary statement.)
6.Look up file #HAG0021A when home. John Hague, b abt 1750 died in
1802. Why was this Orphans Court held in 1828?
_________________________________________________________
7. 1840 Dec 24 Special Session Court, Guernsey Co. held for Estate of
JOHN (b1775)HAGUE . JOHN(b1804) HAGUE and JOSEPH(1806)HAGUE to

1840...wasn't there another?)

8. RESEARCH YET TO DO: FAYETTE Co. Records need to be checked
further, probate, land, etc. Looks like our Hagues there from at least
1790 to 1812; I'm sure HAGUES were there later. 1. Follow census, IGI,
and then get into the county records at SLFHC.
