"THOMAS WHITFIELD was born at Grealey Cleugh August 2,1808." From a xeroxed
copy of William Whitfield Family Records: "a thick vellum sheet
which came to me in the old Whitfield bible from Queen Anne's time,"
wrote Barbara Stewart, 530 Stewart 12th Line, R.R.3, Cavan, Ontario,

Letter written by Thomas Whitfield mentions a boy (he and his wife) took when
he was ---years and now he is 20. Robert Graham b 1853 is with them in the

1882 Jan 7:
Thomas Whitfield died at his residence, Brown Street, Port Hope, Ontario, Can.
His wife Jane is now left a widow. He has a large number of relatives in
Cavan Twp and in Port Hope. Mrs. Wm Carveth of Port Hope is his only sister.
He has been a member of the Methodist church for over 60 years and for the
great portion of that period a local preacher and class leader. He was
trustee of the Methodist church at the time of his death." (obit)
"Thomas Whitfield was a
brother of my Grandfather, William Whitfield
(Jr.). The school where he taught still is called Whitfield School. It is
to be joined to a larger school. . .Thomas Whitfield. . . was a teacher in

"In 1841 a log school house was built. .
.known as Whitfield School,
named after its first teacher Thomas Whitfield, a graduate of an
English
school. . .He taught from 1841 to 1863 and was known as a strict
disciplinarian. He was a master of penmanship and his pupils were
noted

Whitfield and Hamilton Kennedy, "Thomas (no
children) came over and
taught school ten miles from here (Barbara Stewart lives on 530
Stewart 12th line Cavan)." She has, "original dictionary he brought
from
England, unabridged, leather bound."
