It's possible that Mary (Whitfield) Armstrong b 1858 is a daughter of
Edward's. See letters to and from from Alan Wright. (however she does
not fit into list of children given above, so this possibility is suspect.)
1818-BAPTISM: 1813-1921 Baptisms at Allendale & Chapelry of
Ninebanks Parish Register which I copied Sep 23, 1987 had only one
entry for this which read: "April 5, 1818, Edward [son of] John/Hannah
Whitfield, Harty Cleugh, miner.
Carol Minson's Comment: There are 40, I repeat 40, Whitfield baptisms
in that ORIGINAL Ninebanks Parish Register of 1813-1921, which I
copied Sep 23, 1987. Only 3 Whitfields were born at "Hearty Cleugh" and
only one of those Whitfields was named "Edward" (mentioned above.)
A map in a lead-mining book shows "Hearty Cleugh" to be in West
Allendale, and is north of "Blackcleugh" about 3/4ths of a mile,
1841 Census, Broad Lee, West Allen, pg 11.
(John Whitfield's bro., Joseph, & family are on pg 11 also.)

1854-1858-BIOGRAPHY: from Dianne Hughes: "Edward. . .paid his own fare

to the Creswick gold fields where he settled at Red Streak, North
Creswick, near the Australia mine where he worked as an engine man.
Another three children were born at North Creswick. . . Edward and
Sarah with children John and Edward moved to select land on the Terrick
Terrick Plains, near Bendigo Victoria.. . .Some of the descendants of John
and Edward still live in the Bendigo area, while some of Thomas and
Leah's descendants live at Creswick."
1892-DEATH & BURIAL PLACE from Dianne Hughes' letter of Apr 7, 1992.

had written to his wife from Liverpool when on his way to Australia in
1854. (It evidently was in Hannah Whitfield Hymers possession at one
time.)
