Here is one of the conflicts:
When I was at Ninebanks, West Allendale in 1987, I made a hand written
copy of the Whitfields from the "Parish register for 1813-1921." Only
two of Edward and Sarah (Chester's) children were listed on that
register, which is unusual, considering the first four children were born
at Broad Lee. Here is what I extracted:
Sep 7, 1849
Sarah, (d of) Edward and Sarah Whitfield (of) Broad Lee, miner.
and twin
Thomas, (s of) Edward and Sarah Whitfield (of) Broad Lee, miner.
Diane has listed the first four children as born at Broadlea, and the IGI
also lists those 4 children as born Broadlee. Diane has different dates
for their birth than I had from parish register.
However, there is a discrepancy between the IGI, Diane's record and this
record I copied from the Ninebanks register regarding the birth dates of:
the twins, Thomas and Sarah and the next child, Leah.
It appears that the person who sent in those first 5 names to the IGI
lives in New Zealand.
====================================
BIRTH: IGI "LEAH (dau of) Edward Whitfield/Sarah Chester, BORN 14 Aug
1849, (at) Broadlee." This christening was NOT in the Ninebanks Parish
Register that Carol copied at Ninebanks. The IGI batch # is 8234931
meaning an individual sent it in. It is not from extraction program.
Hence, more likely to have a mistake. It appears that someone from NZ
has sent this in.
BIRTH: CONFLICT Diane's b date for Leah is 14 Sep 1851. The1851 date
is not on the IGI. This "1851" fits better than the 1849 b date. 1849
conflicts with previous child SARAH who is on IGI twice with a
1 Sep 1849 BIRTH at Broadlee, batch # is 8234931 ...NZ and
7 Sep 1849 CHR at Ninebanks.
Source: Letter from Dianne Hughes, 10 March 1992, "Tolloora" Kings
court, Teesdale, Vic 3328, Australia. Hannah Coates and John whitfield
were her 3rd great grandparents. Sarah Chester and Edward Whitfield
were her 2nd great grandparents. This Thomas Whitfield was her great
grandfather. She said in her May 15, 1992 Letter "all the children of
Sarah and Edward came from the family bible. There was never any
mention of Thomas and Sarah being twins."
She gives a listing of 8 children of Edward and Sarah(Chester) Whitfield
with full birth dates and birth places. The first 5 children are in the NBL
IGI. (I've used the IGI date.)
She also gives marriages for 7 of the children and a death date for the
8th. The death date would not be on the IGI, of course. Diane may have
gotten this data from a Family Bible.
MARRIAGE: From Diane: "Leah m William Northcott 24 May 1875, at
Creswick."
PICTURE OF LEAH WHITFIELD sent in May 1992 letter to me from Diane.
BIOGRAPHY: Edward and Sarah with children John and Edward moved to
select land on the Terrick Terrick Plains, near Bendigo Victoria.. . .Some
of the descendants of John and Edward still live in the Bendigo area,
while some of Thomas and Leah's descendants live at Creswick."
DEATH: date and place from FGR of Edward Whitfield Family sent by
Dianne Hughes, 7 Apr 1992.
