" Minerva Bates and her husband Jacob Bates contested the will of JOHN HAGUE.  Notice posted in the Citizen's Press pub in Noble Co. OH
Minerva Bates and her husband plaintiffs against John C. Hague, Levi Hague and other defendants.  Levi Hague, Jane Hague, William R. Hague, Nancy J. Hague, John Hague, George W. Hague and Margaret Hague who reside in the Co of Wirt, WV, will take notice that on the 25 July 1876, the plaintiff's Minerva Bates and Jacob Bates above named filedin the office of the Clerk of the Court of common pleas of said Noble Co, a partition which is now there in pending, against them and John C. Hague, Jesse T. Hague and William Guiler defendants, the object of which petition is to set aside a certain deed made and delivered by the said William Guiler and wife to the said John C. Hague,  Jane Hague, William R. Hague, Jesse T. Hague,  Nancy J. Hague, John Hague, George W. Hague and Margaret Hague as grantees, which deed is dated Jan 1st 1874 and purports, pursuant to the provisions of a certain paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of John Hague, deceased, to convey to said grantees in fee the following lands situate in said co of Noble, that is to say: The east half of the north-east quarter of S 21, T7, R8 containing 82 acres more or less.  It is also sought by said petition to have said lands conveyed by the said William Guiler to the said Minerva Bates, Levi Hague and John C. Charles Shepherd wrote: "When I was a child, G grandmother Almeda
Hague lived several miles out of Parkersburg, WV on a farm with her son
Charlie Hague and his family. Once in a great while she would come into
Parkersburg and visit us for about a week.  I was intrigued by the way
she dressed.  In those days she was in mourning for her husband, my G
Grandfather Wm Riley Hague (He died May 1830).  She wore a long black
dress with a black shawl and high button shoes.  In those days women
wore black while in mourning."

NEVIN PHILIPSON Nov 22,1834 at St. Peter's church, Sparty Lea.
She wa born c 1814 at Allendale.  Nevin was a lead miner, but later
became a cartman and then a grocer and draper.  They lived at various
adresses in Swinhope valley ntil Nevin built Bank Top House (otherwise
Mill Bank House) around 1857- by this time he seems to have been fairly
wealthy as he also owned the mill beside St. Peter's church.  This
house/shop was occupied by him and desc until 1931.  They had 4
children one of whom was my g.g. grandmother, Elizabeth Philipson, b
Sep 30, 1837 at Coalpit Houses.  Nevin died in 1881 and his wife, and
later his son and daus continued the business for many years- until after
WWI, I believe.
