"He had a Midas touch-- was in mining, had a livery. He left Grandmother
well off. People took advantage of her. They had a grocery store.
Auntie said she never let anyone go hungry."

1949 June 21, (Obit) Mrs Rebecca A. Cowen, 75 yrs old, 811 West Kansas
St. died Tues at the home of her son, Frank Arthur Cowen in St. Louis, MO.
Mrs. Cowen accompanied by her daughter, Miss Nelvita Cowen. . .had gone
to St. Louis Monday for a visit. . .she born Oct 29 1873 in Benton Co., AR
and had lived in Independence for the past 10 years. RLDS. Surviving
besides the dau and son are a sister, Mrs. Florinda Bradford, 309 North
Pleasant Street, and 2 grandchildren, Ellen Claire Cowen and Leslie
Bradley Cowen, both of St. Louis.
Florinda. . .was left a widow with 7 girls , one son, She never remarried.
was in her 90's (when she died). Only 2 or 3 of her children are living."
