Journal of Rebecca (Hewitt) Bradley:  "Agnes, my second daughter, has
now married a Mr. Joseph Bair.  It was not so hard to give her up for she
was past nineteen and old enough to choose for herself.  The care and
anxiety for me was, will I live to raise my other two children to protect
them from the snares of the evil one.  It seems as if with each year,
there are more and more going the down hill road to ruin.  And my
constant prayer is to live to raise my children to be honest, virtuous, and
to be workers in the vineyard of the Lord.  God has granted my request
and I have had very bright testimony of this work."

(1863)  Rebecca (Hewitt) Adams Journal:  "We now heard we could get

built a house about three miles from where we now lived on a small
creek called Center Creek.   (Pottawatomie County, Kansas ?) We put up a
good log house also a kitchen and _____ and fenced ten acres.  This was
the spring the war came up between the North and South or the Late
Rebellion which caused times to be very hard and work scarce.  My
husband got some work at his trade and we had two good cows and raised
a very good crop.
On June 4, 1863 our second babe was born and she was another dear
little girl.  We named her Agnes Lettie.

She was a month old when my husband and brother-in-law and several
others started out on the plains to put up hay or do any kind of work they
could find to do.  My sister, Lettie, was with me. . ."
