John HAYS [Parents] was born 12 Apr 1792 in Smith Twp, Washington Co, PA. He died 27 Aug 1849 in Greene Twp, Beaver Co, PA and was buried in Mill Creek, Presb Ch. Gy, Hookstown, PA. John married Susannah HUDSON.

"Letters of Adm issued to son John, March 7, 1837."
These are presumably for his father David Hays, who apparently died in
1836 or 1837 probably in Beaver Co. Pa.

E.MORRIS letter #10: "Now to Beaver Co.,PA and the line of DAVID 2.  I
have his pension papers and an old DAR line and that is about all. RACHEL
ANN McCLINTOCK (MRS. JOSEPH FARRINGTON #65382) resigned from DAR
at Gettysburg, PA in 1911.  Adm. of estate of DAVID 2 was by son JOHN 3.
Adm of estate of JOHN 3 was by son, DAVID 4.  I did learn that the only
heirs of JOHN 3 were DAVID 4 HAYS and MARY 4 McCLINTOCK (MRS. JAS).
Who the ch. of DAVID 2 were, I can't find, with the exception of JOHN.
In the 1820 census of Greene twp., Beaver Co., there is an ANDREW living
between DAVID 2 and son, JOHN 3, about the age of JOHN 3."

"Mill Creek Presby. Ch. GY, Hookstown, PA:
JOHN HAYS d. 27 Aug, 1849, aged 57 yrs, 4 mos., 15 days.  (In the middle
of a large bare space.  All the other stones are gone, I guess.)  His land
was in Mill Creek."

"Beaver Co., PA Land Transfers (or Orphans Ct. Docket):
DAVID HAYS & w MINERVA of Greene twp., sold two tracts 27 May 1858.
Mentions deed to MARY & JAMES McCLINTOCK of Erie Co., PA (1857).
Both families are in Greene twp., Beaver Co., in 1850 and gone in 1860.
RACHEL ANN McCLINTOCK was 3 years old in 1850 census."

E. MORRIS, Mar 1962:  "Abt Elizabeth (2) Hays.  Years ago NELLIE SCHALL
aked me to put eh info she sent me in order.  Most ofthe data can be
proved, but not the part about our ELIZABETH marryng JOHN LYLE.  True,
he did marry an ELIZABEH HAYS, but there were so many ofthem around.
The LYLE history says MRS. LYLE WAS OF NORTHAMPTON CO. PA.., near
Easton.  Our HAYS were right across the river in NJ and MOSES (2)
WORKED ASA BLACKSMITH AT EASTON DURING THE REV. WAR,  JOHN LYLE
was one of the executors of the will of DAVID (1) HAYS in 1792.  There
are many things to indicate that MRS. SCHALL is right, but there is just
no proof as yet.  All I really know about ELIZABETH(2) is that she is
named in her father's will in 1792.  I borrowed "The LYLES of Washington
Co., PA" from the author and spent six months copying descendants, so
I'm as upset over this as NELLIE IS.  I thought Gen. Ser. Adm. might have
some info, as ELIZABETH LYLE survived her husband and there is an S. A.
R. line on him, but all I got was a ticket showing that the JOHN LYLE who
served from PA deserted.  There is a book of S. A. R. lines in PA by
Hoenstine.  We have it here.  How does one go about getting data from S.
A. R.?  MR. HOENSTINE is a professional genealogist and quite expensive,
I'm sure.

E. MORRIS, wrote Apr 1961:  "The nicest thing happened!  My 2nd cousin in
Pittsburgh sent me the HAYS FAMILY BIBLE.  It contains the birth & death
dates of MOSES(2)HAYS and w. JEMIMAH and the birth dates of their
children.  The Bible was printed in 1938, a year after the death of both
MOSES and JEMIMAH.  It seems to have belonged to Eleanor Hays Todd and
then to my grandfather's sister, JEMIMAH HAYS McCARRELL, then to her
daughter, MAUD.  It was her daughter DOROTHEA PRICE HINGELEY who sent
me the BIBLE.  IT is in a beautiful box in the middle of my mantel.  It is
in pieces, but I don't want to have it re-bound.  I think that would spoil it
somehow."   (see also her June 30, 1971 letter.)

1977:  Eugenia Morris gave this treasured BIBLE to CAROL MINSON.
