E. Morris- letter #8, Jun 1962: "THIS BIBLE BELONGED TO GRANDFATHER
AND GRANDMOTHER HAYS. IT WAS LEFT IN THE CARE OF P. E. AND LOU
McENULTY AFTER FATHER'S AND MOTHER'S DEATH (ZEPH & ADDIE HAYS)
WHO MADE THEIR HOME WITH US UNTIL THEY LEFT THIS EARTH. I HOPE IT

. . .Pat McEnulty says those (the missing pages from the center of the old HAYS Bible which belonged to Lou Hays) were not the records he gave (to Mrs. Cordonier.) He says he thinks the Bible pages disappeared during the last illness of LULU HAYS McENULTY, his first wife, as there were so many people in and out of their house. I think he would remember correctly.

JOHN HAYS BIBLE---- see E. MORRIS letter of June 30, 1971:
"The Bible records were taken from the McEnulty's home when she lay
dying of cancer in 1951. You received the birthdates of JOHN'S children
from ANDREW HAYS of Wathena, after I had asked him for them and he
told me he didn't know. He is a brother to LULU. Their father was
ZEPHANIAH ZACHARIAH, former sheriff of Doniphan Co."----------------------------

1880 Feb 27: he md at Troy, Kansas - ADDIE ADLINE LITTLE (b 1858 in NH or PA.) He was a farmer, Twp. Trustee, Clerk of School District No. 11,
and Sheriff. Republican. Called "Zeph."1890: LULU was born at Marion Twp., Doniphan Co., KS. She md. PAT McENULTY. For awhile they lived in Zeph & Addie Little HAYS home after their death.
1928 Lived Bendena, Kansas. Also lived at Denton, Kansas
1947-after, LULU "LOU" HAYS McENULTY died. (age 57 in 1947).
No children.

Genie Morris and her husband went to Doniphan Co. Kansas and visited
with JOHN McENULTY's wife in 1961. She said LULU HAYS was her
favorite sister-in-law and had married PAT McENULTY Jr.
PAT was married again and lived at Rulo,NE.
She said ZEPH and ADDIE LITTLE HAYS lived on that farm until their
death. PAT and LULU HAYS McENULTY lived there then. She said PAT had
a trunk of LULU"S papers and books, because she stored it for him for
awhile. and that
ZEPH HAYS IS buried at Wathena, because she went to the funeral and
was in trouble with the McENULTY'S over it. Someone in the family was
gravely ill and the clan was gathered. She was a new dau-in-law and
didn't realize that they would object to her leaving.
It appears that ZEPH and ADDIE HAYS simply have no stones, just as JOHN
& ELIZABETH CULP HAYS have none.

Jan 1962
Genie Morris and husband went to Rulo, Neb to see PAT MCENULTY. "He
said he gave LULU'S books to the library (which?) but that there was no
Hays history among them. He said he had some Hays records stored in
the rafters of the garage and would mail them to me--that they were
mostly photos of Hays. He said he had given NELLIE HAYS CORDONIER
some family records when she last visited in Doniphan Co from
California.
He has the old HAYS BIBLE. LULU HAYS McENULTY has written in the front
that she hopes good care will be taken of it as it belonged to her parents
(ZEPH & ADDIE) and her grandparents JOHN & ELIZABETH CULP HAYS.
There are about seven pages of records cut out. I think this is what he
meant he gave to MRS. (NELLIE) CORDONIER.From Ancestral File (TM), data as of 2 January 1996.
