application of Captain JOHN BLAKE (4)HAYS (ALEX.3, MOSES 2) and was
pleasantly surprised.  The papers even gave the dates of birth of his
three sons.  I had been able to find him in the 1850 census of Smith twp.,
Wash. Co. PA before his marriage, but didn't know much more."

Taught school at Burgettstown,PA.  Unmd and living with mother in Smith Twp in 1850 (age 18).  m 1859 Elizabeth Ann Crawford (d/o Thos and Ann Shipley Crawford.  She d 1918).  They lived in Smith Twp in 1860.  He was judge and resided in Pittsburgh, PA in 1898. He d 1907.  Three children.

are unidentified.  NELLIE SCHALL and I have debated the fate of JAMES
EDGAR(3)HAYS(THOS2) for years.
She believes this JAMES buried at Cross Creek is the son of THOS 2.
I believe his son was DR. JAMES E. HAYS of Savannah, Ohio.
I believe the JAMES buried at Cross Creek is the son of a DAVID HAYS of
Cross Creek twp. whose will was probated in 1832.  He (DAVID) names
sons JAMES & JOSEPH in his will.
