I now think "Eli Buckner Hewitt, born 27 Jul 1826, Brown
County OH died 21 Apr 1860 Council Bluffs IA Served in the
Mormon Battalion Line as a Pvt, Company A." is Richard's son
by his first marriage.  I also just found the Mormon Redress
Petitions on Ancestry.com last week so it seems even more
likely that it is Richard's son by his marriage to Edy,
especially since SOPHIA HEWITT is mentioned too.  Now the way I see
it, is if Eli Buckner was born in 1826, he would be 17 in 1843.  It
seems even more likely since the records shows "Jarusha
Hewitt", "R. U. Hewitt",and "SOPHIA HEWITT."

Carol found a mg in Brown Co. Ohio mg:  Sophia Hewitt to Philip J.Buckner 7 Oct 1822.
----------
Richard Hewitt Jr. named one of his children Buckner and another
SOPHIA.  And Eli Hewitt named one of his children SOPHIA.

They had the following children:
