1855: Her father Sardine Stone Smith was Wesley Township Treasurer, 1855, 57, 58 and 1859 (elected office).
1855 Dec 25: EVA JANE SMITH was born, probably in Bartlett.
1858 Aug: "Sardine's wife, Deborah died. Eleanor (his mother) helped raise his two girls. Sardine sold his store (in Bartlett?) and went to St. Joe Mo taking his mother and the girls, Anna & Eva. He bought a farm (in Doniphan Co. KS?). His sister Ellen Smith lived at St. Joseph." (this from a book of Bernice Grahams pg 316.)

1861 May 4: "Sardine S. Smith 1st Lieut in Marion Guard, Doniphan Co. KS. His mother and girls lived there about 3 years then his mother died. He grew homesick--sold the farm to David Fowler, his brother in law who disposed of it. Sardine brought the girls back to Bartlett."
1862 Feb 11:Sardine remarried Mrs.Mgt.B,(Perry) Armstrong in Palmer Twp.
"Sardine and Margaret lived with her parents The Perry's in Palmer Twp for awhile, they they moved to Nex Lexington, OH to live near some Smith relatives (his sister Cornelia-the Fowlers?) Then moved to Bartlett where girls, ANNA & EVA went to grade school. Then back to Palmer Twp to live.
1867 and 1869 they had two ch.Cidner b 1867 and Idella b 1869. (1867: Sardine's dau ANNA was 13 and EVA 11.)
1871: "S.S.Smith assessor of Palmer Twp." HIST of WASH CO. 1881. p 670.
1875: S.S.Smith listed on Palmer Twp. Map. Next door is Mrs. M.S. Smith.
1878 EVA JANE was md at Barlow to GEORGE CHAMBERLAIN. He was born at Calcutta, Columbiana Co. OH. Eva and Geroge went to live at Calcutta where he had a farm. They had two sons, born at Calcutta. George had poor health and died about 1884 of tuberculosis. He had been previously md to ---Craft who had died. After George's death, Eva and the boys lived briefly at Bartlett, and at New Lexington, OH. Then moved to Dresden OH where she worked for many years at the Bush Woolen Mill and thus raised her boys. It was an heroic accomplishment. In her later years she lived with her son, Royal and family at Dresden. She died at age 87 at Dresden, 3 Apr 1942.
