(Was Hannah born ON that Battlefield? Could be. Rev War was from 1776 to 1782? It's interesting that Hannah's first cousin 1xR- Reuben Hague's biog says:. Maternal grandfather [William Jefferies] . . . plowed in forenoon the Brandywine field whereon the famous Revolutionary War Battle took place in the afternoon." Ellis, HISTORY OF FAYETTE CO. This is what Jan Walker wrote about WM J HAGUE; I think her source is the GENEALOGY OF THE DARLINGTON FAMILY: "SPOUSE RUTH MENDENHALL, md 16 May 1780. Moved from Chester Co. Pa about 1792 and settled in Menallen Twp., Pa. One of the first of six of earliest inhabitants of E. Springfield, OH (about 1811.)

Holland."
1887 obit of Hannah Hague McCombs (on p. 20 of McCOMB FAMILY): ". . .died at her residence just nw of town on WED NIGHT at age of 99 y and 28 d, having been born on the 23 day of Dec 1787, in Chester Co, PA on the ground where the battle of Brandywine was fought ten years previous.
She came to CA in 1848 and a resident of Napa ever since. She was born before Washington became President and was an old lady when she came as a pioneer to CA 39 years ago.(Naw! She was only 61 when she went to CA. That's NOT OLD!) A son age 65 survives her in Napa and she has other sons and daus living elsewhere. The funeral will take place today from the family residence aat 1 p.m." (Comment: She probably died on the 19th, because Wednesday night in Dec of 1787 was on the 19th. OH HO, just found the following confirmation: "Mr.John McCombs, a well know carpenter in this city and a former member of the 21st IN Battery has rec'd word of the death of his grandmother, Mrs. Hannah McCombs of Napa City, CA on the 19th.)

"South Bend, Indiana- paper:"
"Mr.John McCombs, a well know carpenter in this city and a former member of the 21st IN Battery has rec'd word of the death of his grandmother, Mrs. Hannah McCombs of Napa City, CA on the 19th. (Jan 1887). She was . . .in her 100th year at the time of her death. Her birthplace was in Chester Co,PA where the battle of Brandywine was fought ten years previous to her birth. She was md to Lambert McCombs and she and her husband with their family came to the vicinity of South Bend July 5, 1829. Mr. McCombs helped to organize the county and was the first Justice of Peace of German Twp which in that early day included what is now known as Clay Twp.
The McCombs lived here(South Bend) until 1846 when he sold what is now known as the Thomas Calvert farm to the late S. L. Gottrel and moved to CA, the whole family going except William who settled in Clay Twp and lived there until his death. Lambert McCombs and wife became pioneers in CA, as they had been in St. Joseph County, and he died there in 1849. His widow remained near Napa City and lived to see her fourth generation. Four of her sons and three of her daughters survive her, all living in CA except one son, who is a resident of British Columbia. She was living in this vicinity beside her grandson, JOHN, one named after her husband, at LaPaz and several other grandchildren in this county."
