Frank McCombs, youngest son of Benjamin F. McCombs.

Benjamin Franklin McCombs was born in the state of OH Dec 5, 1827.  He cme to South Bend IN with his parents when a child, arriving in IN  Jul 5 1829. . .crossed the plains to CA in 1848, arriving at Napa city in the fall of that year.  The trip was made in a wagon drawn by a yoke of cows. With the company of Major Cornwall in command he joined the gold rush in 1849 and followed mining the greater part of his life.  He died Dec 5, 1922 (age 95) and was buried at Nook Sack Cemetery, WA.

Miss Lavina Lear was born in the state of OH, Feb 12, 1839.  She moved to MO when a girl   and in the fall of 1852 (age 13) crossed the plains to Napa City, CA.  she died Jun 26, 1912 (age 73) and is buried at Nook Sack Cemetery Washington.

Lavina LEAR was born 12 Feb 1839 in Ohio. She died 26 Jun 1912 and was buried in Nook Sack Cem, WA.. Lavina married Benjamin Franklin MCCOMBS on 20 Nov 1854 in Napa City, Napa, CA.

p. 17:  after mg they (Hannah and Lambert) left PAand located in Wayne Co. OH.  They owned property in Wayne, Holmes and Crawford Counties in OH.. . he disposed of his holdings in Ohio in 1828.
"Their first home was on the east bank of the St. Joseph River,(St Joseph Co, IN) now owned by St. Marys."
(There's more on page 17.  Lambert's holdings were quite extensive.  His children may well have been born in different places than Wayne Co. OH.)

“Joseph Hanby Schallenberger”

Deceased was born April 23, 1845 at Canton, Stark Co., OH. At the age of four he moved with his parents from OH to Grant Co., WI and resided there until April of 1882.

In the year of 1864 he enlisted in the Civil War, a private in Company F of the Seventh Regiment of WI Infantry Volunteers and was honorably discharged at the end of the war.

He was united in marriage in 1869 to Priscilla Longmire and to this union six children were born.  Margaret (Mrs. George England) of Busch, MO; Frank of Ekalaka, MI; Ernest of Wild Horse CO; Harvey and Fred of Frederic, WI; and George of Mason City, IA.

In 1882 he moved with his family to Cherokee County, KS where his wife preceded him in death on 31 July 1887.

In 1890 he moved to IA where he married Katie Balzer and to this union four children were born- Everett of Cedar Rapids, IA; Elsie (Mrs. Harold Tank) of Mason City, IA; Firmie (Mrs. Walter Daniels Barry) of Omaha, NE and Lloyd of Frederic, WI.

In the spring of 1920, Joseph moved his family to Frederic, WI, where he resided until his death. He died very suddenly after many months of suffering from heart trouble. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, ten children, 25 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Rebecca Dolphin of Lancaster, besides many other relatives and friends by whom he will be sadly missed.

Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Reverend WE. Lucas of the Methodist Church of Frederic officiated.

The remains were taken by train to Plymouth, IA, former home of the deceased for burial. The funeral took place Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. Services were held at the Methodist Church with the Reverend Golbreth officiating and burial in Oak Wood Cemetery. A detachment of the American Legion attended the funeral cortege to the cemetery and fired the farewell volley. Kenneth Prescott, a boy scout, sounded taps.

A newspaper in Plymouth, IA, adds: A somewhat recent letter said he had not been feeling very well for some time, but apparently the end came suddenly and unexpectedly. He was a G.A.R member, was a remarkably good husband and father a good neighbor, a faithful friend. There will be a vacant chair in the home, and aching hearts will miss his gentle kindliness, and his hearty welcome and genial smile.

Kate may have been married to William Walker before her marriage to Joseph.  They rented land and farmed in Iowa until they moved to Frederic, WI. Both Kate and Joseph are buried in Plymouth Iowa.

She lived with her son Lloyd until he married.  After Lloyd's marriage , she went to live with Firmie.

    "Mrs. Harley Garner Dead"
Mrs. Harley Garner passed away at her home in the township of Beetown last W, May 15th, at 6 p.m., after an illness lasting about two weeks. Her health had been poorly for some time, however.

Deceased was formerly Laura Ann Wimer, and was married April 6th, 1892, to Harley Garner, who with one daughter, aged 14 years, survives the beloved wife and mother.  Mrs. Garner was 41 years old at the time of her death.

Funeral services were held at Beetown last F afternoon, May 17th, at 2:00, Rev. J.A. Jamison officiated, and interment was in the Beetown cemetery.
