Mrs. Hildebrand was b Dec 17 1844 nr South Bend, IN.  Her parents were Wm and Eva McCombs.  She had four brothers and four sisters.  Her eldest brother having preceded her about two years ago at the age of 60.  The remainder of her brothers and sisters are living.  They are:

75 years old, one of pioneers of St. Joseph Co, died at the home of his son, Raymond McCombs of Teegarden, Marshall Co, IN.Lambert confined to bed for past year-dropsy.  He was born in Clay Twp, St. Joseph Co, in the year 1843 and and a resident of the vicinity until he moved to the home of his son a year ago.
He attended the schools of South Bend and Notre Dame.  He was md to Caroline Johnson of this city July 1866 one year following his service in the Civil War during which he was a member of the 21 Indiana Battery.
He was a grandson of Lambert McCombs, the first white settler in Clay Twp, while his mother, Mrs. Eva Cripe McCombs, was the granddau of Peter Roof, the only soldier of the Rev War to be buried in South Bend City Cem.

Four sons and daus survive Mr. McComb:  Raymond McCombs of Teegarden with whom he made his home; Frank B. McCombs, 115 East Donald St, this city; Mrs. Harry Reel and Mrs. Alma Inks, both of Los Angeles, CA.

He is also survived by 5 brothers and sisters:  W. F. McCombs of South Bend;
Samuel J. McCombs of Bertrand, MI;
Mrs. Elizabeth W. Heath,
Misses Eva E, Hannah L and Amanda McCombs, all of South Bend.

Alfred Lowman HOPE was born 1 Sep 1863, Wabash, Iowa.  He died 3 Nov 1930 in Sabetha, Nemaha, Kansas.  He married Florence Ann SOMMERS.

ALFRED LOWMAN HOPE:

Sabetha Friends were shocked to learn of the death of Rev. A. :. HOPE early Monday morning. They had heard of his illness but did not realize its seriousness. As reported in last week's Herald, he was taken seriously ill as he was returning from California where he had gone to see his daughter, who was seriously ill. He was brought to his home in Centralia, then later to St. Anthony's Hospital, It was planned to operate for relief of his condidtion bet he was to weak to undergo an operation.

Alfred Lowman HOPE was born in Wasbash, Iowa, September 1, 1863. His parents were J. B. HOPE and Margaret Furgeson Hope, both natives in Knoxville, Tenn. His early life was spent in Iowa, then the family moved to Little River, Kas., where he attended school. After finishing high school; he entered lane University at Lecompton, Kas. After graduating from the university he entered the ministry and for forty-two years he has served in that, capacity. Of that time twenty years were spent as a presiding elder and the past three years in evangelistic work.

He was married to Florence SOMMERS of Miltonbale, Kas, about forty years ago. To this union were born three children, Margaret Mary, Jennie Esther and John Richie. The Mother died August 16, 1914 {sic 1915}. The daughter Margaret Mary FRYER died July 3, 1927, and is buried by the side of her mother, in Hawthorne, FLA. The other daughter, Mrs. Jennie CASSON, died last Friday at Monrovia, Calif., and is being buried at her old home in Tampa, Florida. The son, John Richie HOPE Jr., lives in Ivantah, Calif.

Rev. HOPE was married November 23, 1921, to Mary H. HAMACHER of Sabetha. FOr two years they lived at Abelene, where the family hone had been maintained for many years except eight years spent in Florida. Mr. Hope still owns a home in Abilene.

Rev. HOPE is survived by his wife; his son; one grandchild, Florence PELTON; one sister, Mrs. Mary FLEEMON of Lecompton, Kas., two brothers, Rev. John HOPE, who is now moving from Leavenworth to Gem, Kas., to take a pastorate, and Andrew HOPE of South Carolina.

Rev. HOPE was a thorough Christian gentleman, true to his comvictions, and of a deeply abiding faith. He was a minister of ability, a pastor whose wise counsel was ever a source of help and comfort not only to members of his own church but to men and women of other religious organizations. His ministry was marked by his earnest desire to be of service, to present the gospel in a way that it would reach and appeal to those who needed it.

His was a sunny disposition. Cheerful and happy himself, he spread optimism in other lives.

Funeral services were held this Wednesday, afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Sabetha United Brethren church, Rev. E. Atkinson preached the sermon. Rev. A. L. Lange assisted in the service.

Rev. A. L. HOPE DEAD

Rev. A. L. HOPE died in Sabetha Monday morning after an illness of about two weeks. Rev. HOPE was formerly a resident pastor of the United Brethren pastor, but later was evangelist. Recently he made a trip to California to visit his daughter who was ill, and returning home was taken ill at Esbon, Kansas. He was brought to his home in Centralia and later brought to the Sabetha hospital, as was his wish. All that skill and care could do was done, but his spirit passed into the great beyond.

Funeral services were held at the United Brethren church Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. A. L. LANGE. The sermon was given by Rev. E. Atkinson retired pastor of the United Brethren church, and other pastors of the church had a part in the service. Burial was in the Sabetha cemetery.

Frederick SOMMERS was born 30 May 1839 in Sumiswald, Bern, Switzerland. He died 7 Jul 1925 in Miami, , Florida. Frederick married Martha A. BROOKENS on 20 Mar 1866 in , Holmes, OH.   Md. 2nd May Webster.

Frederick Sommers served in the Civil War's Union Army from 7 Sep 1861 in the 19 Regiment until it was engaged in the Battle of Shiloh, TN. His regiment was organized at Alliance OH and served in KY. This would be in the Central Division. Then it fought in TN and KY until the final fall and winter of 1863-64. At this time, the Union Army broke out of TN aand GA at Chickamauga and Missionary Ridge Station south of Atlanta, GA. Their last battle was at Lovejoy's Station south of Atlanta, GA Sep 2-6, 1864, while General Sherman was marching through GA. The 19th Regiment was back in TN and Battle of Nashville, TN, December 15-16, 1864.

He was wounded in the face during the war. This wound in later years caused cancer. He developed an ointment that releved this and produced it at a clinic in Florida with a doctor's help. He was discharged 20 Oct 1865 at San Antonio TX.

He was a son of Elisabeth Wyss and Andreas Sommers a shoemaker. The Sommers and Wyss family have been traced back to the 1600's in Switzerland. An Andreas Sommer, probably a gramdfatjer. was bprm 4 Pct 1767 and died 13 Oct 1844. He married Elsbeth Beck in 1792. Her great great grandparents were Verena Eichelberger and Peter Beck.

His pension papers list the names and birth dates of eight of their ten children. One, Edwin, died as a child. The tenth child died and was buried in Martha's arms.

May Webster died in approximately 1936, after they had six children together.
