JOHN HAYS BIBLE---- see E. MORRIS letter of June 30, 1971:
"The Bible records were taken from the McEnulty's home when she lay
dying of cancer in 1951. You received the birthdates of JOHN'S children
from ANDREW HAYS of Wathena, after I had asked him for them and he
told me he didn't know. He is a brother to LULU. Their father was
ZEPHANIAH ZACHARIAH, former sheriff of Doniphan Co."

1837/1838: age 22- Moved to Scioto Twp., Jackson Co. Ohio. (Parents moved there also.)
1842 May 19: JOHN's mother-JANE (HAYES) HAYS died (age 59); prob Scioto Twp. Jackson Co. Ohio.
1844 Aug 31: md. ELIZABETH CULP, (b 21 May 1816, in Jackson Co. OH) d/o JACOB and NANCY (BOWEN) CULP from PA.
1850: The JOHN HAYS family were farming in Scioto twp, Jackson Co.Ohio.
1855: April-Moved to Marion Twp., Doniphan Co. Kansas. P.O. "Palermo"
Methodist Episcopal Church. County Commissioner. Member of The Grange and The Union League
1882: They were farming there, raising fruit, grain, and Poland-China hogs.
1885: Census JOHN & ELIZABETH HAYS are in Doniphan Co. Are they in
Wathena (which is Washington twp.) or in Marion twp? I997,
Carol Minson fears she has said, Wathena Marion twp. Recheck
E. Morris says: Palermo in Marion twp. Wathena in Wash twp.
1888: ca. JOHN HAYS died at Wathena?-- Doniphan Co. Kansas
1903: ca. ELIZABETH CULP HAYS died. They are both buried at Rosedale Cemetery, 4 mi s of Wathena,Doniphan Co. KS. Seven children (perhaps others who d young.) There are no headstones for them.----- Mar 2, ZEPH HAYS bought
Lot #20, Block 4 of Rosedale Cemetery which is abt 4 miles south of Wathena. There are three graves on this lot and had small metal marker, but they are so deteriorated cannot tell the date. I contacted a son of ZEPH HAYS and he said those graves were his g f JOHN HAYS and ELIZABETH CULP.(Letter to Carol Minson abt 1962 from Louis Richards, Sec Rosedale Cemetery.)
E. MORRIS May 197l: LUCILLE HAYS (Mrs. Raleigh G.) of Wathena said she
remembers MRS. HAYS and dau. MARIA living together on the edge of
town. ANDREW HAYS said MARIA was in her 60's when she died (abt 1911.)
