Martha Ann CALLENDER [Parents] [scrapbook] was born 18 Jul 1847 in , , Ohio. She died 12 Jan 1936 in St. Joe, Dekalb, Indiana and was buried 15 Jan 1936. Martha married George Washington WOODCOX on 16 Mar 1871 in Defiance, Defiance, Ohio.

(death certificate misnames Martha's father as Amos Callender Woodcox. Also misnames her mother as Elizabeth Schurtzer).

Obituary states Martha was born near Hicksville Ohio, July 18, 1847 and was married to G.W. Woodcox at age 23. 8 sons 2 daughters.

RELIGION: United Brethren Church  per obit.

PHOTOGRAPH: I have a copy of a picture of Martha Ann and George taken about 1913 with gson Robert Burley.

Im not sure yet about Martha's birthplace. The obit says near Hicksville. Somewhere I have that the family came to Hicksville when her brother,T.F. was 8 (which would not be until 1850).

Bea Miller Woodcox (see Woo210 d) remembers her grandmother Martha telling her of when she was first married she would take the children into an old hollow tree that they used as a storage shed when she would see the Indians coming from across the river.
