Hello,
My name is Sue Donovan and I live in MI. I recently came across info you have on ancestry.com and the Family Research IGI site for Phoebe Jarvis Bulger. I am not a descendant of the Jarvis or Bulger families but rather a member of Friends of Potter Cemetery Association and a Trustee of Potter Cemetery Trust. Potter Cemetery is in Ash Township, Monroe County, MI and is a landlocked cemetery. Several members of my husband's family are buried there along with @ 180 others. Thirty of us formed an Association and the Trust to be able to gain access to restore the cemetery. Info re all these details can be found on our web site at http://monroe.lib.mi.us/cwis/potterfriends.htm Please check it out. I am e-mailing you because there is a headstone in the woods outside the bounds of the cemetery that has the name Phoebe Bulger, wife of Samuel, on it. Unfortunately I do not have any dates from the stone. Benjamin and John Bulger, brothers of Samuel, are buried in Potter Cemetery as is John's wife Jane Labo Bulger. Until I found your info on the web we had no idea what Phoebe's maiden name might be. Could this Phoebe in our cemetery be your Phoebe? If so I would be very interested in e-mailing or talking to you. We have been searching for descendants of those buried in Potter Cemetery and especially a descendant of Phoebe's. You see her headstone is in the woods, on private property, and the owners of that property have refused to let us have the stone to be able to return it to the cemetery. There is no plat map in existence for the cemetery so we are not sure exactly where her marker goes but we would put it with the other Bulger stone, the one for John and Jane. Benjamin does not have a marker that we have found but we know from records that he is buried there.
If this is your Phoebe Jarvis Bulger and you are interested in our efforts I hope you will get in touch.
Sincerely,
Sue A. Donovan

Hello Sue,
I can't say from my limited info on Phoebe Jarvis,(b. abt 1840 of Holmes Co, Ohio) if this is the same person as Phoebe Jarvis Bulger. I have the names of her parents and siblings, but I don't believe I have a name of her spouse or children.
sorry not to be of more help

HI Dave,
Several months ago you may remember I e-mailed you re an online posting you had for Phebe Jarvis, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Kilgore) Jarvis. I was searching for info on Phebe.
Thought you might be interested to know I have new info on her. She was the wife of Samuel Bulger, married in Holmes County, OH on October 31, 1860 (I have the record from Holmes County). In March 1866 they came to Michigan, Berlin Township, Monroe County and in July 1866 Phebe Jarvis Bulger gave birth to a daughter Phebe E. or H. Bulger. Mother Phebe died on August 18, 1866 at aged 26 years, 3 months, 23 days and is buried, I believe, in Potter Cemetery, Ash Township, Monroe County, MI. Her headstone is in the woods south of the cemetery, I believe dragged or carried there by vandals. I saw the marker in March of this year and have pictures of it. There is no death record for Phebe as Monroe County did not begin recording deaths until 1874 and no births were recorded until 1867 so there is no birth record of the daughter Phebe. I do have the CW pension file for Sam which confirms all this.
Samuel Bulger left MI, went back to OH, then to IN and eventually to Kansas where he died in Redfield, Bourbon County, on April 24, 1914. He had remarried a widow named Melissa (Burman) Sloan and had 2 children, a son and a daughter, with her. Not sure when she died or about those children. His daughter Phebe married Henry Zinkan in Washington Township, Daviess County, IN on November 20, 1884.
Not sure how you relate to the Jarvis family but hope this info is helpful to you.
