Mrs. Louis Bohringer Dies After Very Brief Illness
This community was saddened on Monday night upon learning of the sudden and
unexpected death of Mrs. Rozella Bohringer at the Brookens hotel.
Mrs. Bohringer came to town from her home west of this city
Monday forenoon to attend to some business. When about to start for home at
noon, she became ill and went to the hotel, which is owned by her brother,
Ernest Brookens. When she arrived at the hotel, she collapsed and remained in
an unconscious condition until she passed away at 8:30 p.m.
Mrs. Bohinger has been in delicate health for some months.
The death of her husband 13 months ago, and the responsibility of managing his
estate, seriously affected her health, and when the collapse came there was
not enough vitality upon which to recover from the attack.
Mrs. Bohringer was a daughter of Thomas and Catherine
Brookens, a well-known pioneer family of this vicinity. She was born September
7, 1869, and passed her youth on the farm west of this village (Blake's
Prairie). She attended the district school, and obtained a good common school
education. A good reader, she developed a cultured mind, and enjoyed the best
literature. She contributed frequently to the local press, both prose and
verse.
On January 7, 1894, Rozella was united in marriage to Louis
Bohringer. Their marriage proved to be the union of two congenial natures, and
they were happy until their association was broken by death. This union was
blessed with eight children, as follows: Birdie (Mrs. Wm. Cathman), Bagley:
Violet (Mrs Caled Koecke), Glen Haven; Fairy (Mrs Hilario Valdovinos), Dovie
(Mrs. Aden Koecke), Lulu and Kermit, at home, Bloomington; Montevillo and
Dolly Catherine, who died in infancy.
Mrs. Bohringer was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an
affectionate sister. She gave the very best of the thought and attention to
her family, and the children gave her unwavering devotion. Their home life was
contented and happy, and will always be a pleasant memory to the children.
Mr. Bohringer died December 19, 1923. His faithful companion
could not seem to reconcile herself to life without him and his wise help and
counsel. The problems of life and business weighed heavily upon her shoulders,
and her health became delicate. The summons came in the midst of her daily
duties, and she passed away on Monday January 20, 1925, aged 55 years, four
months, and 12 days.
Besides the family mentioned above, Mrs. Bohringer is
survived by two brothers, Ernest of this city and Oral of Glen Haven, and one
sister, Mrs. Henry Fisher of Wyalusing. One brother, H.C. Brookens, preceded
her to the Great Beyond.
Internment will be made in the family lot in Blake's Prarie
Cemetery, beside her husband, who preceded her but a few months ago.
