this years ago, before the census indexes.  Check the earliest  (1830?)
census indexes for Clay Co. Mo for Stranges.

1850 Mar 4:  Nancy Jane  Strange, child #3 of Rolan and Matilda Strange-
born in Clay Co. MO.  Iva Campbell's Bible Record.

1851:  Rockport, Atchison Co. formed from Clay Twp in 1851.  Atchison Co., Mo.
History 1882,  Pg. 1017:  "In Oct 1856" there was one of the trial jurors

1858:  "Child #6, Marion born, Rockport, Atchison Co. MO,"  Iva Campbell's Bible Record.

BIRTH/MARRIAGE/DEATH: dates and death place came from Iva
Campbell's Bible Record.  Iva (Strange) Campbell was the eldest child of
Marion Strange, the son of Rolan Strange.  She gave the names
of Roland's wife (Matilda Gross), her birth, and death date and place, as well
as their seven (eight?)children and birthdates, and her father, Marion Strange's
birth place, death date and place, all from Bible records, she said.
Iva Campbell lived at 2220 Austin St. Annandale, VA in 1959 and was age 79 then.

Mary Alice born "17 May, the year peace was declared from Civil War."
(1865)  Death date/place "in Family Bible."  Flossie Jessup lived in
Denver in 1962 and was age 75.

They had the following children:

  M i
STRANGE was born about 1885 in , Of Marshall Co., KS. He was buried about 1886 in Marysville Cem., Marshall Co., KS.

BIRTH-BURIAL:  (My letter to Helen Kracht  Jan 11, 1992.)

You said in your letter:
"There is a grave of MATILDA wife of RY in our cemetery Feb 16, 1886, 56 yrs. 7 mo.  Also infant son of FM & MA."

Since  Feb 16, 1886 is Matilda (Gross) Strange's death date, I assume you meant "wife of RS".   Is that correct?

The  "infant son of FM & MA" may be Francis Marion (Strange) and Mary Alice (Strange)...but that is a guess.  It is unusual to not have the last
initial  attached, which would be "S" for Strange.  Is there any more writing on that stone?  Is it a separate stone, or was the "FM & MA"  on Matilda's stone.  If it was separate, could you, would you,  please make a
little diagram for me so I could see how it was placed in relation to other relatives graves?    Family grave plots are often near one another.
This helps in identifying them.

The following came from Helen Kracht's letter of 1-27-1992  in reply to
above:
"I went to the cemetary today.  Here is the information on stones.
Small stone says, "OUR BOY INFANT SON of FM & MA STRANGE."

Stones set in this manner [drawing in her letter]:
First stone from road about 3 ft high:  MATILDA WIFE OF RY - FEB 10,
1886 AGE 56 YRS 7 MOS.  STRANGE(on bottom of stone.)

Second stone, 10 feet from Matilda's:  "Infant"

Large stone 4 feet back of infant:  Same thing.  I can't make it out.
(letter I believe) then an "A. DEERRING/ DIED JULY 1887/ 18 YRS/ WE'LL
MISS YOU DEAR SISTER."
___________________

Comment: The infant's stone is closest to "A. Deering" and may be related to her.  However, the infant's stone says ""OUR BOY INFANT SON of FM & MA STRANGE."  So, I think the infant should be sealed to Francis Marion
and Mary Alice Strange.  His birth and death year were calculated from the death dates on the two stones on either side of him, as well as birth years of his siblings. (See Family Group Record.)
F ii Iva Glynn STRANGE was born 3 Jul 1880 and died 15 Aug 1960.
F iii Flossie May STRANGE was born 3 Apr 1887 and died after 1963.
  M iv
STRANGE was born about 1886 in , Of Marshall Co., KS. He was buried about 1886 in Marysville Cem., Marshall Co., KS.

1886 Feb 10:  Matilda (Gross) Strange, mother of Francis Marion Strange, died on this date and is buried in the Marysville, Marshall Co. Cemetery.  Helen Kracht wrote the following:
"There is a grave of MATILDA wife of RY in our cemetery--  First stone from road about 3 ft high:  'MATILDA WIFE OF RY - FEB 10,
1886 AGE 56 YRS 7 MOS.  STRANGE'(on bottom of stone.)

Also a second stone, 10 feet from Matilda's stone says, "OUR BOY INFANT SON of FM & MA STRANGE."

Large stone 4 feet back of infant:  Same thing.  I can't make it out.
(letter I believe) then an "A. DEERRING/ DIED JULY 1887/ 18 YRS/ WE'LL

Comment: The infant's stone is closest to "A. Deering" and may be related to her.  However, the infant's stone says ""OUR BOY INFANT SON of FM & MA STRANGE."  So, I think the infant should be son of  Francis Marion

Although Rachael is always claimed by the family as a full sister, her
name appears in the 1865 Census of the Samuel Strange family as "Rachael Dalton."
Since she was born in 1853 before Elizabeth married Samuel in 1855, it is likely that she
is their child of a previous relationship.  This seems most likely.
Another possibility:  There is a1 yr old Rachel Dalton in 1850  in a James Dalton family.  They are in Carroll Co, VA, just a page away from the Lewis Dalton Family in 1850.  (Lewis is the father of 20 year old Elizabeth Dalton, who md Samuel in  1855.)

"Deceased left:  A brother F.M. Strange and wife; (Francis Marion Strange.)
a sister Mrs. Alice Miller, Alton, KS;
a sister, Mrs. Jane Hewitt, Jennings,OK;
a brother, W.T. Strange and his 2 sons of Blue Rapids."

TO DO:  Her brother, Marion Strange died 9 Dec 1945.  His obituary might
be helpful to ascertain Alice's death date and place.

PICTURE:  "ALLIE, NANCY JANE, SUSAN.  ALL STRANGES."  Picture taken at Elite Studio in Marysville, KS.
All three women look very sad, in their eyes as well as their mouth. Their mother died in 1886.  Alice was 21 in 1886, Nancy Jane was 36, and Susan was 31 in 1886.  Yes that looks about right.

PICTURE:  on back: "ALICE STRANGE MILLER."  It is a full length portrait (almost).  Alice has on the same dress as  in the picture with her three sisters.  Her hair looks a bit different.  She appear to be the same age.

PICTURE: written on front: "Nancy Jane sister Alice Miller (Strange)". She looks very classy in hair style, glasses and dress.  About age 40.

PICTURES:  two portraits of "Alice (Strange) Miller's boys.  Clarence and Harry Miller."  They are about 17 and 15 in one picture, and about 21 and 19 in another.

PICTURE: snapshot of Nancy (Strange) Hewitt, Marion Strange and Alice (Strange) Miller.  they are standing up next to a garage or barn.  About 1933:  Nancy would be 83  (she doesn't look 83.  Well, maybe her hands do.)   Marion would be 75 and Alice 68 in 1933.
Etta Mae Hewitt wrote on the back of this picture: "This was the last time I saw Marion & Alice.  I think this was in the early 1933."

PICTURE: snapshot of Nancy (Strange) Hewitt, her sister, Alice (Strange)
Miller, and Hettie (Hewitt) Dexter.  Etta said "The last time I saw these three together before Nancy Jane Hewitt     the summer of 1934."

From the Book "Old Time Thornhill" by Doris M. FitzGerald, Canada 1970,
pg 25:
"JOHN DEXTER came to Upper Canada from New York State about 1796, in
a family group.  He received lot 43, con. l, Markham as a Crown Grant and
in 1801 traded it for lot 38, con.l, Vaughan, then held by Captain Richard
Lippincott.  The eight Dexter children were among the first pupils at the
Cober (Langstaff) school and remained on the farm until 1828 when the
north 105 acres were sold to Wm Southby Gapper, a British half pay
officer, for 125 pounds.  Eventually parts of the south half of lot 38
were also disposed of, but two of JOHN DEXTER'S sons, AHIJAH and HIRAM
remained in the area.  They operated saw mills on the Don, at the back of
lots 37 and 38, con l, Vaughan."
(There is more to the article about Dexters.)

Both Robertson and FitzGerald are filed in JOHN DEXTER b 1773 file; as is
another article by Doris Fitzgerald from THE LIBERAL, (newspaper?) of
Richmond Hill, Ontario, Oct 3, 1968,which details JOHN DEXTER'S
quarrel with Henry Vanderberg, his death and JOHN'S hanging, as well as
what happened to the land of JOHN DEXTER.  She said, "JOHN DEXTER came
to Upper Canada from NY state about 1796.  Mary md Joshua Leach a
carpenter in the Town of York. "

tells about the hanging of JOHN DEXTER IN 1816.

"From the records of D. W. Smith, surveyor general from 1792, we find
that ASA DEXTER was given a provisional grant of Lot 44 on the east side
of Yonge Street in 1797, and at the same time JOHN DEXTER was
confirmed in Lot 43, adjacent to ASA  In 1800 however, these lots were
regranted to Arnold Rowley, on condition that he compensate the
DEXTERS for improvements made. . ."

"There are a number of references to the DEXTERS in the records of the
Quarter Sessions of the Peace, which was the magistrates court as well
as the instrument of local governnment.  Both JOHN and ELISHA served on
juries, and ELISHA (probably the Elisha born 1758) was a constable in
Vaughan Township in 1800.  In 1804, JOHN'S wife, JENNY, released her
dower right in a land sale."

"John Dexter's brother Amos died childless so his brothers and sisters,

proof that John was the son of Elisha and Lydia.  John's older and younger

there was no question of Elisha's having had two wives.  John had to have
