DETAILED NOTES by Carol Dexter Minson
BIRTH "about 1750," and BIRTHPLACE "Chester Co. PA" source:
Was he born earlier? He could have been the eldest of the two brothers.
John was married -about 1772 . William md 16 May1780.
John had first child- in 1773.* William's first child, 11 Feb 1781.
John got married before the Rev War. William married afterwards.
However, it was William that was made administrator of his mothers
estate in March 27,1767. This is an indication of eldest son, and for
now, carrys the most weight.
(* John's children's birth years calculated from Orphan Court records.)

Sometime between 1787 and 1796 they made their move to Fayette Co. PA.
Mrs. Kimber says they moved to Fayette about 1792.
Perhaps that is when William Hague moved. From the 1790 census it appears JOHN HAGUE moved in 1790 or before 1790..

COMMENTS: No more HAGUES than those three in Fayette County in l800.
And, there is no WILLIAM HAGUE in the Chester Co. l800 Census Index.
CENSUS: 1810. My 1970 notes say: "repeat of above. No other John Hague

suspect the 1810 is NOT a repeat of the 1800. Needs further checking.

ACTION: I think the Jefferies were Quakers. Many of the Hague's may
have been also. A g g grandaughter of John and Sarah Hague said that
John and Sarah Hague were buried in Sandy Hill Cemetery near
Uniontown. "They were Quakers from Chester Co. PA." Needs to be
checked further.
1. Hinshaw for Chester Co Quakers should be checked.
2. Where are the intervening years of tax lists from 1735-1765? Are
these in the PA Archives? Check indexes.
4. Chester Co.PA records need be checked further, probate, land, etc. Looks like Hagues there from at least 1773 to 1792; perhaps even 1746.
4a. It appears that we need to check Cumberland Co. PA for further info
on JOHN HAGUE because of: "1768-1770 CUMBERLAND CO. PA tax list
Hopewell Rate JOHN HAGUE p 34."
5. Check County Histories of Chester Co.
LA Sons of Revolution has book: CHESTER CO. PA, by Everts 1881.
Now that we know the Hague's were in Kennet Twp., Pennsbury Twp.,
Birmingham Twp., and Oxford Twp., Chester Co., from AT LEAST
1765-1790 (probably much earlier,) that book should be checked further;
As well as other Chester Co PA histories and records.
Chester Co was an original county, created 1682. (Early!)
Wonder if there are TOWN RECORDS available?
And what does SLFHL have on Chester Co.? Burial records? We know
there are wills available. Write and ask. (Salt Lake) films are
probably our best and easiest repository.
6. JOHN HAGUE is listed in Fayette Co in 1790 census, and also in York
Co., Chanceford Twp. What's the history of York Co and Lancaster Co
formation?
7.Fayette Co. PA should be checked in probate and land, etc. More
documents are very likely available. Be sure and follow up on ANN
HARVEY "sister of Sarah Hague" #382.

More details below:
1752 Feb 12: Birth of Sarah Collins.
1752 May 1: Baptism of Sarah Collins. "I did write to get copies of the marriage of John Hague b 1750 to Sarah Collins. This researcher hired through Old Swedes (Jul 2001) said that Sarah Collins was the daughter of John and Briget Collins and were likely members of the church. Sponsor, Brita Andersson, and he (the researcher) said, The Anderssons were very active members of the church. He gave me a copy of the listing (in Swedish) in the books for the birth of Sarah Collins, the date being 2/12/1752. ."
----
Carol Minson called Old Swede's Church in Wilmington, DELAWARE at 302-652-5629 in Nov 1988 and talked to a Lisa Nichols. Asked for any HAGUE mgs in 1700's. She looked at mgs-male index starting 1698 up to1800. This is what she told me:
1774 May 17: JOHN HAGUE md SARAH COLLINS at Old Swedes Church.
1780 May 16: WILLIAM HAGUE md RUTH MENDENHALL at Old Swedes Church . Female mg index starting 1698:
1760 Jan 22: JANE HAAG md WILLIAM PEOPLES at Old Swedes Church.
Pat Mandeville sent a copy of two pages from" the Records of Holy Trinity Old Swedes Church of Wilmington, Delaware, that have the above data exactly--on it.
Copies of the original records from Old Swedes Church in Wilmington, Delaware
of the May 17, 1774 marriage of John Hague and Sarah Collins, as well as a copy of the original records of the May 16, 1780 marriage of William Hague and Ruth Mendenhall at the same place were procured by Donna Nakhle from Old Swedes Church in July of 2001 and sent to Carol Minson.
GENEALOGY OF THE WORTHINGTON FAMILY, p. 170
mentions Guernsey Co and a
"Rebecca Jeffries born 1786 married ISAAC HAGUE who
is thought to have been son of
JOHN and SARAH (MENDENHALL)HAGUE.”
Sarah “Mendenhall” is INCORRECT!
It was Sarah Collins!
This according to documented Old Swedes Church mg. records:
“John Hague md Sarah Collins May 17, 1774,
at Old Swedes Church in Wilmington, DE.”
The error may have crept in because John's brother,
“William Hague md Ruth Mendenhall May 16, 1780,
at Old Swedes Church in Wilmington, DE.”
A volunteer researcher for Old Swede's Church Foundation wrote Bill Potts in Feb 1992:
"1774 May 17: JOHN HAGUE md SARAH COLLINS at Old Swedes Church.
There is serious dought these (Hague) familes were members of Old Swedes, as there are no records of baptism of children by the name HAGUE. There are several mgs under the name of Mendenhall, but again this does not mean membership in the church. The Mendenhalls were a large prominent QUAKER FAMILY in this area and of southeastern PA. When someone md 'Out of meeting' they would go to the nearest - or furthest- church to be married. Since there were not many churches in this area at the time, MANY QUAKERS were md at Old Swedes, but did not become members.
1802 Sep: Sarah (Collins) Hague's husband, John died before Sep 1802.
(Is it the correct "SARA HAGUE in the data below?." Seems to fit. Or, it could be
this Sarah's, daughter-in-law, who was also md to a John Hague b abt 1775.)
1804, Jul 4th:
"Joseph Mendenhall. . .was Captain in the Chester Co militia throughout the Revolutionary War. He had a sawmill just beyond Sandy Hill at what is known to older residents as "Mendenhall's Dam'. . "
"After the vows were said, the husband and wife and all guests present sign the .marriage certificate. . .of (South Uniontown?). . . I (author of Fayette Co, Quakers) saw the original of this certificate with the pictures of Joseph Mendenhall and wife, and Daniel Johnson and my g. g. g. grandparents. This is the way it reads: Jul 4th, 1804. . .Justices of the Peace for Fayette Co, William Jefferies and Martha Mendenhall, both of said county were lawfully married.
