Joseph’s Trade: Carpenter   (Thomas's Journal)

1869 May 2:  Joseph Ward Minson, second child of Thomas Minson and Catherine Ward Minson, was born in Paris, Bear Lake County, Idaho.

21 Jun 1869 Jun 21:  He was blessed by Charles E. Rich, Sr.

The knowledge of Joseph's education is limited.  At the time of his youth, education in Idaho was difficult.  He attended grade school for some years, but was primarily a self-educated man, for which we are all very proud.  His early years were spent in Paris, Idaho.  He worked at every job available; such as farm work, logging, cutting ice in winter from streams and ponds and storing it in an ice house for summer use, raising chickens; in short, any occupation to make a living.  Joseph was a sincere and religious boy, attending church regularly and fulfilling all requirements in the priesthood.

Ordained to the office of:

1883:  Deacon by Robert Price on 30 May 1883.

1887:  Teacher by Robert Price on 9 Jan 1887.

1892:  Priest by Walter Hoge on 28 Nov 1892.

1894:  Elder by J.W. Stucki on 27 Jan 1894.

Patriarchal blessing by James Works.

1916?    Bill looks older here. Is it Bill?  Been off to war?  Does anybody know?

“The first move from Paris was to Malad City, Idaho, where father (Joseph Ward) managed a department store for Uncle John Anderson (Eliza's husband.  See Eliza’s history).  We then moved to Brigham City, still in the employment of Uncle John, selling knitwear on the road for two years.  Then we moved back to Paris and father became a builder, an occupation he followed until his death.”

DEATH OF TWO OF JOSEPH & CHRISSIE’S BABIES:

1907 Sep 11:  Edith Lucille Minson, 3 years old, died.  Buried Paris.

1912 Jul 26:  (Thomas Minson’s Journal) “My 71st birthday. . . Joseph was under the doctors care being sick.”

1912 Jul: “The next move was to Bear River City, Utah, then Ogden, where most of the children finished high school.”

1915 May 2:   (Thomas Minson’s Journal)  I and wife went to Ogden to celebrate Joseph’s birthday. “

1915 Jul 5:  “Chrissie Minson gave birth to a son.  Jul 9th  Wife went to Ogden to tend the baby.”  (Thomas Minson’s Journal)

1915 Aug 19:  “Returned to Salt Lake, my wife stopped off at Ogden for a weeks visit.”  (Thomas Minson’s Journal)

(1915 about:)  Although Salt Lake is not mentioned as a residence for the Joseph Ward Minson Family, here is a comment from Violet Anderson Cammans.  Her mother, Catherine Minson, was the youngest sister of Joseph’s: “When I was about 5 (1915) we lived by Joseph’s family in Salt Lake.  (Ogden maybe?)  Joe's daughter, LILLIAN and I, were good friends.   Joe's daughter GWENDOLYN died in her 30's.  I have a picture of her.  GWENDOLYN had heart trouble all her life.  Couldn't do anything.  Setting around a table she collapsed.”

(1922-1923) “ From Ogden, father and mother, with their younger children, moved to Los Angeles, California.”

Dixie Minson said: “ Do you notice how dressed up the men, women and children are?  The women are in coats - and hats too.  Looks like a Sunday gathering or perhaps an Easter activity.  It’s cool enough for coats to be on the women and Grant had on a sweater.

The family would meet in their Sunday best for Christmas and Easter.

It was not the 4th of July, they were dressed too warmly.

It was a special occasion for the whole California Minson family to be at the park.

(Looks like Frank Minson Family are here visiting from Lincoln, Idaho.  They moved to Ontario, California in 1933.)

(1928)  Moroni continues:  “However, these days were not all sunshine, for my brother, Joseph, took seriously ill and on the 29th of October,   he passed away.  This was quite a trial for me for over these past years we had become very close and his passing left me depressed and with a feeling of being alone again.”

    CHRISTINA MINSON     JOSEPH MINSON

“This was the same feeling I experienced in the passing of Father (1920) and Mother (1922).  Joseph's passing added an extra responsibility for I felt that it was up to me to take care of his wife (Chrissey) and their two young sons, Royal (13) and Eugene (10).  But shortly after Joseph's death, Chrissey

decided that she wanted to be near her eldest daughter,

Marie M. Wilton, who at this time lived in Alameda, California, so they moved away and this left us alone again.  We had become very close over the years and it took a long time to readjust our lives without them.”                                                    Moroni Minson

Wm Greer Welton and wife, Maude Marie (Minson) Welton

“Joseph’s health was poor for four or five years

before his death in Los Angeles.  Interment was

   in Los Angeles.”

1871—1947:

Alice Christina Maude –“Chrissey” lived another 18 years after the death of Joseph.  She died at age 75, Feb 15, 1947 in San Diego, California.  Chrissey is buried in Ogden, Utah.
