History of Thomas Minson, notes by Carol Minson Dec 2004
1. Birth place of John Minson in London is questionable. Parish records show John Minson born May 9,1794 in Kingstone, Somerset, England.
2. The ship John J. Boyd was under the command of Captain J. H. Thomas. Elder James S. Brown was appointed as president over the company of Saints. see a description of this ship and voyages involving the saints at http://www.xmission.com/~nelsonb/ship_desc.htm#jboyd .

3. According to LDS Church records, Thomas Minson joined the LDS church in Cheltenham. The family left Leamington close to the time Thomas was born in 1841. His father died in London in 1846 and Ann (Baker) Minson left for Cheltenham supposedly with all her children. Thomas is listed in Cheltenham in the 1851 census. The following two links are interesting in getting a view of the times and challenges the missionaries and new members of the church faced in that time and area. The Leamington branch is highlighted at http://www.ldsep.org/england/birm/leam/index.html .
Also
Elder Robert F. Neslin
who baptized Thomas Minson
is mentioned several times in Ezra T. Benson's 1856-1857 missionary journals at
http://etb.bensonfamily.org/histories/etb-1857.htm .
It also paints a great
picture of the difficulties the church members and missionaries faced.
